AX - A fast food example
In yesterday’s post around the AX (Announcement Experience) framework, I made a hypothetical about McDonald’s dropping a fire tweet:
Call it a twist of fate, but another fast food chain had a one-word tweet that won Twitter yesterday.
Adweek or Adage will probably never give this tweet that praise it deserves, so I will.
Why did Wingstop tweet this?
Risky move, but it clearly paid off. The engagement for this tweet was on a different level.
If we look at Wingstop’s most popular lifetime tweets (thanks to the Twemex), we can see that 5 out of the 6 most engaged tweets came from that original tweet.
Even McDonald’s, with ~16x the followers on Twitter, hasn’t reached the level of virality that Wingstop’s tweet did.
So when you apply the AX framework that I introduced, what did Wingstop do?
Announcements matter folks 📣
Is Lebron entering Web3 soon?
Lebron James, like many other celebrities and companies, filed for trademarks for virtual goods back in March.
As one of the most famous athletes in the world, and also a brand, this makes sense. Whether Lebron and his team decide to enter the metaverse is up to them, but they logically want to protect the rights to the brand wherever applicable.
Yesterday, Clone X fans noticed some changes in the trait metadata of one of the Clone X’s that the RTFKT team owned.
What specifically happened?
If you peruse the RTFKT account, you can peek into where the team’s head is at:
Dream OS - RTFKT’s platform that powers everything RTFKT (and maybe more?)
Drip Coin - The RTFKT team leaked some info on a move-to-earn program 👟
I’ll let you decide if this is just a coincidence or something else 🙂
Speaking of sports
Sorare will be launching a NFT fantasy basketball game in time for the new NBA season this fall in partnership with the NBA and NBPA.
This isn’t Sorare’s first foray into NFT fantasy sports. In fact, they’ve established themselves as the premier partner for these experiences, as they’ve already locked down partnerships with football (soccer) and baseball (MLB) as well.
At the bottom of the NBA signup page, we see this:
What about the NFL? They’ve partnered with Draftkings to build their own fantasy NFT game.
What are some takeaways from these developments?
Most major sports leagues and teams have locked down their fantasy NFT platforms partnerships. The land grab phase is coming to an end.
Dapper has a stronghold with sports partnerships (NBA Top Shot, NFL All Day, UFC Strike, etc.), but did not secure the lucrative fantasy sports dimension. It might sting a bit, but I believe they’re long-term strategy is secure as it is multi-pronged.
Sorare seems to be the leader in the fantasy NFT space, but we’re still early.
Looking at the top 10 sports leagues by revenue, this is what the landscape looks like:
Tomorrow is my 100th piece
It’s mind-boggling to think that I wrote my first ‘Hello World’ piece just 5 months ago.
Tomorrow’s piece won’t have Web3 alpha, no in-depth analysis, no hot takes about the space.
It’ll be a piece about me. My journey, some personal anecdotes, and what’s next for Web3 with TPan, and TPan the human.
See you tomorrow! 💯
