I think you are spot on. It's prohibitively expensive to manipulate a prediction market whereas it is quite easy to make up facts in a news article. Therefore, prediction markets provide a stronger signal about what's going on in the world. However, prediction markets are binary and lack context, which is where journalists excel. Combine the two, prediction markets and news, and you get the best of both worlds: reliable signal alongside nuance and context.
