[Thoughts #121] Safary's Web3 Map, Rimowa x RTFKT, a Web3 Gaming Event
PLUS: 🤝 LinkedIn x TPan?!
Alright, I have about 15 minutes before I get kicked out of the hotel room. I’ll continue writing this at the airport.
Hotel checkout was initially at 11am but I accidentally scared Imelda, the housekeeper cleaning the room next door while going back to my room with morning cold brew in hand.
I turned the situation around by kindly asking her in my Kindergarten level Spanish if I could get a later checkout. I think she was happy to hear my broken Spanglish so she let me hang out in the room for another 2 hours. Shoutout to you Imelda! 💪
WTF I just subscribed yesterday. This guy writes about housekeeping? Is this the wrong newsletter?
No, you’re probably subscribed to the right one. This is just TPan when he’s on cold brew and no breakfast. It gets weird…
Anyway…some quick but interesting hits.
Safary’s Web3 Martech Map
My friend Justin over at Safary is crushing it. They just released the inaugural Web3 Growth map. If you work in Web3 Growth, this is a helpful resource to understand what the landscape looks like today. Plus, if you share it with others everyone will think you’re smart.
I’m not sure how often this will be updated, but I imagine the next edition will look way more packed.
You can check out the interactive version of the map here (you can click on each of the company logos and it’ll take you directly to their website, nice!).
Rimowa x RTFKT
RTFKT has been hinting at some big news. The team has dropped numerous videos filled with sneak peeks. Whether or not you’re part of the community, the quality of content and their AX strategy is something to note.
It took me a while to notice this, but one way RTFKT enhances their AX experience is that the founders always reply to the announcement tweets. Maybe this is a common practice, but I notice this most consistently with RTFKT.
How does this work? This is what might typically happen:
But if the team + founders also reply this is what I’m assuming happens
Click on any of the above tweets and you’ll see what I mean. The founders (Benito, Cleg, and Zaptio) are active in promoting the RTFKT announcements in a non-annoying way and a larger surface area is covered. I’m not sure how the algorithm responds to this, but if anything I imagine there is more signal.
Well, that was a tangent. That wasn’t the original reason why I brought RTFKT up.
Earlier today, RTFKT announced a partnership with Rimowa, the luxury luggage brand.
Rimowa also tweeted the announcement from their official account, but they only have 20k Twitter followers so it was a low risk move.
1 ETH is almost 1 Rimowa lol.
This is notable to me because it’s not for the Rimowa brand itself, but rather Rimowa is a subsidiary under…you guessed it our favorite luxury conglomerate LVMH!
If you’ve been reading my stuff for a while, I’ve been covering LVMH’s Web3 moves for a while. In fact they were the subject of my first piece 6 months ago!
The cherry on top…guess who used to run Rimowa? Alex, Bernie’s son. (Bernard, please don’t send a hitman in my sleep because I called you Bernie. I’m not worth it 😰)
We’ll see what the partnership looks like, but LVMH is not playing around.
Tiffany (LVMH subsidiary) partnered with Cryptopunks and now Rimowa is linking up with RTFKT. Who’s next?
A Web3 gaming event in the Bay Area
If you’re in the SF Bay Area, my buddy Tim O’Neil shared with me that there will be an exclusive Web3 gaming event on November 2 at UC Berkeley.
If you know anything about gaming…these are HEAVY hitters.
Reply to this e-mail if you are local and will be able to attend and I’ll forward you over. In Tim’s words:
“It’s a free event, but the attendance is highly curated to ensure high quality hallway discussions.”
LinkedIn news
I’ve been accepted into the LinkedIn Creator Accelerator program! The 6 week program helps up and coming content creators in an incubator style format. The 120 person cohort program kicks off tomorrow!
More details on the news here!
I think I applied over a month ago, not sure what to expect. I’m grateful that the LinkedIn Creator team saw something (aka: saw that I was going broke) and decided to use their last roster spot on a poor soul like me.
If you read my Precap yesterday on CBC, there were literally business owners and marketers in every industry imaginable interested in learning more about Web3 and NFTs. I was genuinely impressed and stumped at some of their questions. And that gets me excited with this program because LinkedIn probably has a similar audience.
I’m not sure if I’m the only creator focused on the Web3 space, but I’ll be doing my best to rep us. I believe that there are a LOT more people than we think that are interested in Web3 and NFTs, but don’t know where to find quality content.
More importantly, they don’t know where to find quality content with a dash of sarcasm and self-deprecating humor. And there’s only one place to find that: Here 😉
I might see you tomorrow. I’ll be on a top secret mission to the HQ of a company that I didn’t mention here…👀
