Don't think anything went wrong in the traditional sense, but hit scalability and efficiency issues is my hunch.
Why create a completely separate loyalty program vs. integrating into its established and gigantic incumbent loyalty program? And if you want to keep them separate, how do you scale that 100x at minimum (not to mention globally)?
IMO that's the unfortunate business reality :/ but maybe they do come back bigger and better than ever!
